Overview
- One of the best concepts in poe currency is its passive tree and ability gems. While major nodes unlock strong passive skills that change the way you perform, nodes offer slight updates to your stats.
This works in concert with skill gems, which slot into pieces of gear and give your personality spells and abilities to use in combat (unlike Diablo 3, they don't have any provided abilities). Items will often have gem slots, and they're linked together. If I put an ability like Orb of Storms to a slot and then join it on Flammability, Strike and Vulnerability, every time my Orb of Storms hits on an enemy it use both of those curses into them. It's essentially a system that is spell-crafting that is highly robust.
Nevertheless, it's when skill gems and the tree float that things get exciting. My Necromancer relies solely on Scorching Ray to deal damage. I've unlocked lots but a few nodes have these smart synergies that are really enjoyable to unlock. Take Elemental Equilibrium for example, making enemies that I hit with elemental damage briefly receive 25 percent resistance to components to -50 percent immunity and all those elements.
How could that be helpful to me? When an enemy is hit by Orb of Storms, they become immune to lightning damage but weaker to fire. And Path of exile currency since Scorching Ray is really a harm over time ability, it doesn't actually"strike" an enemy, therefore that I never risk making them resistant to fire by accident. That is only one of a dozen small synergies my character has. I have never been much of a concept crafter, but viewing my build slowly come together as I unlock more major nodes has been a rewarding experience.
