Why does the bathroom scale read differently on a hard surface and on a carpet?

Body

People who lose weight have long discovered that their weight readings will change, and this change depends on where they put the bathroom electronic scale?

According to reports, simply moving the electronic scale from the carpet to the flat ground can reduce a few kilograms of weight. It’s only recently that scientists have figured out why bathroom carpets exert this extra gravitational force, or which reading you should trust.

Jon Pondgast and Dr. David McKay of Cambridge University gave the answer to this question.

By testing the mechanical devices of the traditional mechanical bathroom electronic scale, they found that the weight measurement system of the electronic scale was built on a series of fulcrums connected to the bottom plate. On a hard surface, this bottom plate is far away from the ground, and when a person steps on the electronic scale, this bottom plate will bend. Then, a series of levers convert this degree of curvature into a reading. On a soft carpet, the bottom plate of the electronic scale cannot be bent normally, and the reading will be wrong.

Researchers have found that errors can sometimes reach as much as 10%. Therefore, it seems that many people who think they have weight problems are actually carpet problems. If you want to keep the carpet in the bathroom, you have two options: spend money to buy an electronic scale with a different mechanical device, or to comfort yourself, if not because of the damn carpet, you have reached your ideal weight.
