Gems level up and become more powerful poe currency as your character levels. When a gem amounts, the degree and attribute requirements of A gem increase. This can create an issue if you are using gems from an attribute class that is not one of the attributes that defines your character class. The jewel's attribute requirement can grow above the character's feature level making the stone unusable.

There is an easy way to avoid this. Gems auto-level by default. You can turn auto-leveling off by simply clicking the stone and toggling. When an item holds more than one stone, putting one to Manual doesn't impact the others.

Active skills use Mana, and they may be used whether they are socketed in armor or weapons. Skills could be mapped into the diamond buttons on a console controller by clicking the right rod when you are not in your stock.

Ability usage in Path of Exile is not quite different from other RPGs as soon as you get a deal on gaining skills by socketing gems. Things don't get interesting until you take aid gems into account.

Support gems level up and are color coded with cheap PoE goods level and attribute requirements like ability gems. The difference is that support gems do not hurt enemies directly, they change how ability gems damage enemies. Those changes can be enormous and are frequently the difference between success and death.
